2016 Toyota Fortuner Review And Interior

Toyota is one of the biggest car manufacturers in the World and they managed to become one by offering specialized cars for each particular market. The Fortuner is the perfect example of that, an SUV aimed at the Asian and African markets which shares its platform with the Hilux. The car offers all the things the customers in these areas demand such as a great interior and very good off-road capabilities. The 2016 Toyota Fortuner is the latest model which has been released just a couple of months ago and it is already available in India, Australia as well as a few other countries.

Price

In all markets combined, Toyota sells more than 200,000 Fortuner each year so it is actually one of their best selling cars out there. Because of that it employs the newest technologies and a lot of features both inside and out. The newest model shares its chassis and drivetrain with the Hilux so the off-road capabilities are there. However, its exterior and interior are different in order to make it a better all around car than the Hilux. Just as we mentioned above, it is already available in a few countries around the World and it is reasonably cheap, the base model costing just the equivalent of around $30,000 or less, depending on the market it is sold in.

The exterior of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is all new and it has nothing to do with the older vehicle or even with the Hilux. The front end is unique, offering a complete new design which follows the same scheme as the design of the new Corolla. This is because the two are the first to receive Toyota’s Keen Look design with an ample front grille and sharp looking headlights. The front and rear bumpers are nicely styled and both of them offer good departure and approach angles and the ground clearance is bigger than most so the off-road capabilities of the car are beyond average.

Interior of the 2016 Fortuner Model

Inside the cabin Toyota worked tremendously to make the Fortuner more than just a work vehicle. Thanks to that, even the base model offers a lot of commodities such as climate control, good materials on the seats and the dashboard which is both nice to the touch and really durable, a very good audio system which can be further upgraded with a touch-screen and a satellite navigation unit. The seats are electric as standard and there is just as much room in the cabin as in the Land Cruiser meaning that Toyota might have a real winner on their hands.

2016 Toyota Fortuner Engine

Engine wise, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is available with four different engines but only two of these are available in each particular market. There are two petrol engines, a 2.7 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 which is good for 160 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque as well as a 4 liter V6 which is quite powerful at 278 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both of these come as standard with a 6 speed manual while a 6 speed automatic is available as an option. Rear wheel drive is standard with both while all wheel drive can also be had on all models as an extra.

The two diesels on the other hand are expected to be the bulk of sales on the Fortuner. There is a small 2.4 liter turbocharged inline 4 with 150 horsepower and 250 or 300 lb-ft of torque, depending if the buyer gets the 5 speed manual or the 6 speed automatic. The bigger 2.8 liter turbocharged diesel is a better choice though because it offers a very similar fuel consumption with the benefit of having 177 horsepower and 310 or 330 lb-ft of torque, again, depending if the customer wants a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed automatic.
