2019 Ford Focus

The 3rd generation of the Focus has been around for nearly 7 years so it is going to be discontinued in the near future. The car will be replaced with the 2019 Ford Focus, a brand new model sporting new features as well as many improvements that should allow it to challenge its premium European rivals. So far Ford decided to remain quiet about the new model. Even so, it is quite clear that a major redesign will happen. In fact, the car has been spied numerous times already and spy shots have been taken as well. These do reveal a few interesting details about the car but more on that a bit later.

What is it?

While the current model is based on one of Ford’s lesser platform, the upcoming Focus is more than likely going to be based on Ford’s modular CD4 architecture which also underpins the Fusion. Thanks to it the Focus is also expected to boast a new running gear. The car’s wheel bolt pattern will be retained but it looks like there will be bigger brakes, discs all around on all models as well as a fully independent suspension system on all versions. This alone should be well worth the upgrade over the current car. The car’s price has yet to be revealed. However, it seems it won’t change much over the ongoing model.

2019 Ford Focus interior

Even though there aren’t any official pictures available, the cabin of the new 2019 Ford Focus has already been spied on the development prototypes. It seems the car will be very similar to the new Fiesta which has been released in Europe a short while ago. It seems that the center stack with the infotainment system mounted above the AC vents. The general look of the dashboard is also quite similar to the Fiesta sporting the same design lines and overall lack of physical buttons. The cowl over the instrument cluster as well as the steering wheel, on the other hand, is quite a bit nicer than in the cheaper model.

The prototypes seemed to sport the finished sheet-metal which suggests Ford is already done with the development of the car’s design. This means the production model will look pretty much just like the car we have seen in the past months. In the front, the Focus will boast really close resemblance to the Fiesta with the same type of headlights and grille. However, the car is not only larger but it also is wider and lower than its smaller sibling. The sedan version of the Focus seems to have a coupe-like roofline with a shorter rear end than most other sedans in this class. In fact, it looks to be a throwback to the Fusion’s design which is not a bad move on Ford’s part.

Ford Focus 2019 Engine

The ongoing US version of the car comes equipped with a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline-four or with a turbocharged three-cylinder EcoBoost. The 2019 Ford Focus will more than likely receive the 1.0 liter EcoBoost as its base offering. This should provide up to 140 horsepower and over 150 lb-ft of torque, enough for its class. Higher up the range, the car is likely going to boast a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine offering north of 170 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. An ST version will likely be released at launch with north of 260 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. All versions are expected to be available with a 6-speed manual or an optional 9 speed automatic. A future RS model is also possible but if the past is any indication, this is unfortunately still at least 5 years away.
