Since it was originally released the Cayman managed to make a lot of people wonder if it would get the same amount of power as a 911, would it be a better car or not? Well, Porsche knew something because they didn’t release a more powerful version of the car until know which is a bit of a shame but also understandable considering the fact a similarly powerful Cayman would cannibalize the sales of the 911. The all new car is the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 which is the track oriented version of the car with a lot of improvements over the base model which are not meant to make it more comfortable but rather to make it go faster around a track.

The new car also looks quite a bit more different than the base model having a lot of upgrades which are meant to make it go faster around corners. This is also the first ever Cayman to use the exact same engine as in the 911 which is something quite impressive by any means. The car is already available for sale and it should cost around $86,000 which is a lot more than the base Cayman and awfully close to the base 911.

While the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 name may not sound like much, the car actually shares a massive amount of components with the 911 GT3. The entire front suspension system, wheel hubs and even braking system comes straight from the 911, offering a slightly wider track than the base Cayman. On top of that the rear of the car has also been upgraded with bigger brakes, two more springs to help pretension the main springs as well as a fully adjustable suspension system. On top of that the car comes as standard with Michelin Cup 2 track tires which will offer a massive amount of grip on a dry track or road.
2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 Engine
Behind the seats of the Cayman there is the same 3.8 liter naturally aspirated flat 6 engine that is also found on the 911. However, on the Cayman the engine makes 15 less horsepower at 385 hp and up to 310 lb-ft of torque, all of them available really high up the rev range. Unlike in the GT3, the GT4 Cayman uses a 6 speed manual gearbox which drives the rear wheels via a torque vectoring differential which will offer a lot traction on pretty much any surface. Thanks to the really low weight of the car, it should get to 60 MPH in 3.8 seconds and go up to a maximum top speed of 183 MPH which is very fast and when it is mated to the very good chassis of the Cayman, the end result is not only an extremely fun car to drive but also one of the fastest road cars under $100,000.
Unlike the base model of the car, the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 comes with a completely new body kit which has a very important role on the car. In the front there is a carbon fiber splitter, there are new lightweight wheels, a massive fixed carbon fiber reinforced rear wing which offers a good amount of downforce at high speed as well as unique colors for this model.
The cabin of the car on the other hand is like any other Porsche with a good amount of features but this time stripped down to the essentials in order to save as much weight as possible. There are two highly comfortable and supportive racing seats as well as air conditioning and a navigation unit but besides that the car is quite bare when compared with the usual Cayman model.
