2016 BMW 740e Hybrid

The 2016 BMW 740e Hybrid is a new plug-in hybrid, that is expected to follow the major trends in the industry or maybe set some of its own. Essentially, it follows the path set by the 740 and 750, and mostly brings a new engine option, while retaining most of the features in terms of design and handling. What is new and revolutionary, however, are the advancements in the plug-in hybrid technology that will make it stand out even among other BMW vehicles.

BMW 740E RELEASE DATE

The BMW 740e Hybrid is set for launch by the end of this year, although it is unknown just when will this happen exactly.

BMW 740E PRICE

There is no official data on prices for the new 2016 BMW 740e Hybrid. However, the price should greatly exceed that of a regular 740, mostly due to the engine and the level of new technology involved. And given that the base 740 can fetch no less than $74,000, you do the math. Seriously, hybrids should not be that expensive; there is no objective reason, given the scarcity of fossil fuel and government incentives, but it is what it is…

2016 BMW 740E HYBRID EXTERIOR

New BMW 740

On the outside, the 2016 BMW 740e Hybrid should not be that different from a regular 740e, except for the badge and maybe some color options that are unique to the Hybrid. This is still a luxury vehicle, so the overall vibe is mature and elegant, rather than sporty and aggressive. The grille, lights and bumpers should remain unchanged compared to the regular version. What sets it apart from the base model is the advanced technology that goes under the hood, rather than what sits on top of one. There is one notable exception, though, and that is a new Carbon Core structure not unlike the one found in all-electric cars that are supposed to help them shed some weight while retaining structural integrity required by safety regulations.

INTERIOR

On the inside, the level of equipment is what you might expect of a luxury vehicle. The customizable, air-conditioned seats are a nice touch, as is the finest leather on top of them. The infotainment system has finally taken a hint regarding the awkward and ineffective iDrive controls and they are not making a comeback, so there is some good news right there. Now the system will analyze hand gestures in order to make adjustments to, say, audio levels or make a call… Speaking of audio, the Bowers & Wilkins audio system is one of those extra features that should be anything but ‘extra’.

BMW 740E HYBRID SPECS

Finally, the most important part of the BMW 740e 2016 is its powertrain, a 2.0 L twin-turbo engine paired up with an electric drive that can propel the vehicle on its own for at least 23 miles. The exact power specs are unknown at this point, but rumors suggest anything up to 330 hp and an automatic transmission. We’ll just have to wait and see if rumors turn out to be true or not.
