2016 BMW M4 GTS

If you didn’t know, the GTS has always been the track ready models from BMW. The latest 2016 BMW M4 GTS promises more than that. It promises to be a better M4 that will make use of a better tuned chassis, a new interior and improved engine. All of these though will come at a cost, the car being quite a big more expensive than the usual M4.

Interior

2016 BMW M4 GTS Interior

Let’s start our review with its interior. This is probably where the biggest changes will take place over the normal M model. It is expected to feature only two seats that will be provided by Recaro. This will be wrapped in Alcantara leather and they will offer great lateral support, being great both for the open roads as well as for the track. Unlike the normal car, the GTS model will also feature a 6 point harness for the driver and his passenger as well as a racing roll-cage that will not intrude the cabin but it will be installed where the rear seats should be.

Exterior

New BMW M4

On the exterior there aren’t too many details but from the spy photos or from the early renderings we can see a much more aggressive car than the normal M4. The GTS will make use of a different body kit with a lower suspension. The front bumper will now include a small splitter while the back will get a diffuser. On top of these, there will also be a new small spoiler on the boot that will be similar to that of the M3 GTS. Its exhaust on the other hand will be pure M style, with the quad exhaust in the center of the car.

Engine

Engine wise, the 2016 BMW M4 GTS will make use of the same basic 3 liter twin turbocharged inline 6 from the M4. Unlike the base engine, this actually will make quite a bit more power at 470 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque thanks to a new intake system and a different exhaust. This changes mean that the car will get from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 3.5 seconds and up to a maximum top speed of 155 MPH. Unlike the normal M4, the GTS will get a tweaked version of the 7 speed automatic. The manual is still uncertain if it will be released on the GTS.

2016 BMW M4 GTS side

That performance level is also achieved with the help of an improved chassis. While the normal M4 weighs a massive 1670 kg, the GTS is supposed to weigh less than 1400 kg making it one of the lightest in the series. This weight should also allow it to be brilliant in the corners and should allow for a wider range of driving styles.
